Minimally invasive surgery and laparoscopy
Minimally invasive surgery allows access to the inside of the body through very small incisions. In many cases this means less pain, reduced inflammation and a frequently faster recovery compared with conventional open surgery. Laparoscopic sterilisation in female dogs is the most common example.
When it can help
Mainly suitable for sterilisations (laparoscopic ovariectomy or ovariohysterectomy in female dogs), minimally invasive liver or abdominal biopsies, certain diagnostic explorations and some specific procedures. Each case is assessed individually: not all animals or all surgeries are candidates for the minimally invasive approach.
